All my sites are built using up-to-date standard practises, and where appropriate, feature a content management system to allow the client to control their own website. I believe that in most cisrcumstances, it is beneficial for the client to be able to change their website without having to come and ask me to make adjustments. While I am happy to do this, it can make changes a little harder to decide on.
My content management system of choice is Umbraco, built on Microsoft technologies; it is as flexible as the developer working with it. With Umbraco, you will get a totally unique website, and have complete control over it.
Having previously worked extensively with PHP and MySQL, including building my own CMS and e-commerce applications, I have begun to focus on Microsoft technologies, due to their power, flexibility and speed of development. I still work with PHP and MySQL when the situation is right for those technologies, and I do believe they have their place in the modern internet.
